I drove out to Eau Claire yesterday to wander around and look for photo opportunities. It was a beautiful day and it seems that everyone wanted to be outside. I’ll be travelling later this year and decided to pick up a new ‘point and shoot’ camera for those times when a DSLR is too cumbersome. I wanted something with a few more features and the ability to capture RAW files. After a lot of research online, I chose the Canon G11. It arrived earlier this week so I took it along to test it out. I don’t yet have the adapter to be able to use a polarizer but the camera did very well without any filters. These trees were at the end of the trail that follows the Eau Claire Gorge.
I just about stepped on the snake in the top right corner of the frame. Lucky for both of us, he was paying attention and moved out of the way. These two thought it would be a good idea to hang out in the middle of the trail. I took a few photos and encouraged them just off the trail before anyone else came along.
This rock had great colour, texture and a nice pattern thanks to the lichen climbing it. Overall the G11 did very well and I was very pleased with it. I’ll be posting more shots from the G11 tomorrow.

This Lake Nipissing sunset was captured at Sunset Park (surprise surprise). The ice is quickly melting and while I was taking photos, I could hear the groaning and cracking of the ice ahead of me. I wouldn’t normally be able to get this close to this exposed rock but the ice/water level seems quite low and the ice was still thick enough to hold me. I believe the striations you see on the rock are from glaciers moving across its surface a long time ago. As rocks and sediment were dragged and pushed by the pressure of huge glaciers moving, they left scars like these on other rocks.
